Well, newborn season is in full swing…I have been crazy with newborn shoots these last few weeks. That works for me though…newborns are one of my favorites to shoot. The sessions are therapeutic for me.. There is nothing more perfect than these innocent, fresh little miracles. Newborns remind me of what it’s all about.

This is Olive. She is just 7 days old here. This shoot will always hold a place in my heart as little Olive has given such new meaning to her mom’s life. The interaction between mom and Olive was like none I have seen before…there was just something special about their connection.

There you have it…and this one was pee free….thank god

This was a little out of the ordinary for me, but when a past client asked me to do senior pics, I thought why not? I don’t have to get the kid to sleep, I don’t have to jump up and down, make crazy faces or ask weird questions. And best of all, I don’t have to chase the kid around…I tell them to do something, they do it. Sounded like a pretty good gig to me! So we started off with the ‘standard” (aka “boring”) yearbook poses…haha. Actually, the kids made it fun as I watched them go back and forth with their parents and argue about everything – the hair, the smile – teeth or nor teeth, wide smile or casual smile, hair all forward or half forward, stand upright or upside down…ok, i added that last one in there to for effect. The kids had an opinion about everything – and it was the exact opposite opinion of the parents…is this what I have to look forward to??? Seriously, they were vocal about what they liked and didn’t like and it made the experience much more fun to watch and listen to all the banter…you don’t get that with a newborn!

So, then we headed out to do the fun shots – well, they were fun for me anyway. I am not sure everyone else will share my feelings as they spent most of the time fighting off mosquitoes. I have about 20 outtakes of each of them swatting. Actually, I was eaten alive too, but in my world it’s worth it. So what if I come down with malaria, at least I got the shot

So all in all, I had a great time with this shoot – definitely would do it again! BUT I might consider bringing bug spray

Thanks, guys, for being so much fun and such good sports!

And this is their little bro – who my daughter thinks is quite “dreamy”. She sat behind me as I was working on his pics….asking questions about him…she was a little disappointed he is only 7 – I mean, being 8 and all, she is just so much more mature I find it weird that she is checking out my clients already…

wow…two posts in one month…I’m on a roll! Actually, I thought mom and dad deserved a sneak peek since they did drive two hours for a shoot -and for a third time! It’s the least I can do…

So this is Tabitha…probably one of the happiest babies I have photographed. I shot her newborn pics as well. I will never forget it because mom and dad were going back and forth about who was more sleep deprived (I’m gonna bet it was mom ). But anyway it’s such a treat when a family comes back and I get to see the changes and how much the baby has grown. In this case, that little 5 pound baby turned into an adorable, chubby one year old…and mom and dad still weren’t getting enough sleep!

Thanks for making the trek down here, guys! It was great seeing you again!

Soooo, I am supposed to be on vacation this week. Yep, we were supposed to leave for NC last Friday. Instead I am here in NJ trying to dry out my basement from our weekend storm…not really my idea of a vacation. My office is in total chaos as all the rugs had to be pulled up. I can barely get to my computer – and when I do climb over here, I can’t even sit down! And then to top it off, I have no service on my cell. My point is that if you are waiting on an order or slide show, everything is pushed back a week (pretend like I actually went to NC ) And if you are waiting for a response to an email or for me to return a call or text, please hang in there..I am not ignoring you ;) For right now, email is the best way to get me…I just may take a little longer getting back to you. In the meantime, if anyone is interested in a swamp themed photoshoot, I’m your girl!

Have a good one!

I am loving these!!! I just got my first sample back and it is gorgeous. They are called Gallery Blocks and they are such a fantastic way to display your images. A Gallery Block is a professional photographic print adhered to a solid wood structure through a custom process that produces a unique wall decor product.

They come in single blocks or floating blocks. The floating blocks are a series of images adhered to wood structures and united on a larger backboard which produces a three dimensional effect.

Mine is a 24×18 floating block. The pictures are designed in a collage on the backboard and I have a quote on the floating block. However, they can be custom designed and come in a variety of sizes – even a cute little set of three 5×5′s.

If you would like more information, please feel free to shoot me an email. Or, you can ask to see a sample when you are in.

Ok, I must go spend some time with my kids before they leave me for a weeks vacation…I’m a mess and they haven’t even left yet.

Hard to believe, but my daughter, McKenna turns 8 today. I swear I still feel like she was just born…Luckily, her attitude reminds me that is not the case So every year, on her birthday, I go back over her photos and reminisce. I used to get sad that those days are long gone…but then a very wise man told me not to focus on the past and that her baby days are over…rather focus on the future and all the great things that come along with her growing up…And he was so right…with every passing day and every year that she gets older, she brings more light into my life. She has been such a source of strength for me when life gets a little off track. She is wise beyond her years and, the most sensitive, empathetic, intuitive person I know. When you ask her who her best friend is, she will tell you she likes them all the same because she doesn’t want to make anyone feel bad by picking one friend. I don’t know how I would have gotten through the last couple years without her wisdom and insight…she is my rock. She somehow already knows the life lessons I am still trying to get a grasp on…she is 8 with the soul of an 80 year old. She is truly a special little girl…

I love you, McKenna! Happy Birthday!

Yesterday morning, I watched as my neighbor’s house went up in flames. (read the article) It was one of the most horrific things I have ever seen. Thankfully, mom, dad and two babies all got out safe. In talking with one of the firefighters, he told me they were lucky to get out….smoke detectors woke them from their sleep. The house is completely gutted and everything was lost. Everything except the most important – each other. So as I sit on my couch and look out the front window, I am staring at a constant reminder – what we have today can be gone tomorrow. I can’t help but to think what those parents must have been going through as they grabbed their babies from their cribs and got out of the house. It is so scary to say the least. I can tell you this – my babies were in my bed with me last night. So, my point is simple – but something we sometimes forget during the chaos of everyday life – hug your babies and hold them tight….extra tight today.

Are Digital Files Included With My Baby Photography Session?

Below is another article that you may find helpful when choosing a photographer. Again, I did not write this…just sharing…

Surely you’ve noticed an increase in the number of photographers giving away digital files. As a customer, should you expect them to be for sale? Why don’t all photographers include them in the session fee for free, or at least make them affordable? Don’t the files belong to you anyway?

Federal copyright law is very clear about image ownership. They belong to your photographer, who has the sole right to print, display, and sell them.

You should expect the price of digital files, if available, to compensate your photographer for their work and talent. Baby photographers don’t always sell a large package up front like wedding photographers. Instead, most charge a session fee that just covers some costs of providing the shoot. We rely on print sales as our sole source of income. The digital images are the key to those print sales. This is good for you. It means I have to do a good job for you, or I won’t get paid.

While many photographers do offer the files for sale, many baby photographers who specialize in creating custom art don’t. For them, it’s a matter of quality control from start to finish. They realize cutting corners on that is a disservice to their clients.

Almost all of the file inquiries I get stem from an attempt to get my work for cheap… to get my vision, but to skip out on buying prints from me. Or from a misconception that digital is cheaper to produce than film. It’s not.

The equipment is much more expensive, replacements are necessary more often, and the workflow, maintenance, troubleshooting, and constant education requirements make digital much more expensive.

Even at that, the real value of digital files comes not from the cost, but what the files contain: the work and artistry that prompted you to choose that photographer. If you purchase files, expect to pay a price that values the work, and is sustainable for the photographer. You want him or her to still be in business when your new baby starts sitting up. Or walking. Or when your family grows.

If you’re looking for cheap portraits, and you don’t care about prints or a long-term photographer, cheap photography is available in abundance on places like Craigslist. You can have a session and all the files for very little money. But for custom baby photography, the most important things to look for are artistry, image quality, experience with babies, safety, and service. Choose wisely – baby portraits are precious memories and family heirlooms.

Ok, I’ve procrastinated long enough….of to the gym…have a great day!!
